Student Services
Northwood Library has a collection of over 9000 fiction and non fiction books available to students for two week checkout. The library also has magazines and reference books available for one day checkout. Books on tape are available in over 100 titles, mostly fiction. Students may check these out (one at a time) through their teacher and listen to them in the classroom or at listening stations in the library. No fines are charged for overdue books; however, students must pay for or return overdue items before they are allowed to check out additional materials. Besides books, magazines, and books on tape, the library also has laptop computers and Alpha Smart word processing machines available for school related use. Laptops are used in the library or the classroom only. Alpha Smarts may be checked out over night to students who have a parent permission form on file. The educational videotapes in our library are primarily for classroom use; however, students may view videotapes in the library or classroom for make up work as assigned.
Accelerated Reader
To foster reading development, many Northwood teachers set Accelerated Reader goals for their students. AR tests are available for approximately half of the books in our library. All of our books on tape also have AR tests. Students can locate AR books in our library by the colored dot on the lower part of the book spine. They learn that certain dot colors designate specific reading levels. Students can also determine the possible number of AR points they can earn for a book by referring to the library's alphabetically arranged notebook of corresponding test titles. You are welcome to look at our AR test list. The Seminole Public Library also displays a copy of our AR test list for your reference.
